The Twinning link between West Lindsey and Neunkirchen ( Germany ) is administered by the Chief Executives of the two Councils. At West Lindsey the officer with day to day responsibility is the Civic officer.

The district of Gemeinde Neunkirchen covers six centres of population with Neunkirchen as the principle town. The district lies at the centre of the former Federal Republic, adjacent to the Dortmund Frankfurt autobahn (E45) known as the "Sauerland Line". The Siegerland, in which Neunkirchen lies, is an area of hills and forest and is particularly picturesque, with many black and white timbered houses each with colouful flowered window boxes in summer. Although 70% of the district is forested, the area has factories involved in metal and plastic fabrication, the manufacturing of engineering machinery and electronic equipment. The company SSI Schaeffer manufacture wheely bins in one of the several factories. They were the original designers of this product, now supplied throughout the world.

The industry of Neunkirchen was formerly iron ore mining, however the last remaining mine was closed in 1965.
