Black Forest Birthday Party

In July, members of the North Hykeham Town Twinning Association, (NHTTA) will be travelling to North Hykeham's Twin Town of Denzlingen in the Black Forest area of South-west Germany. There are normally visits every other year but this year's stay will be special, explained NHTTA Chairman John Lingard.

"Denzlingen is also twinned with St Cyr Sur Mer in the South of France and Citta Dell' Pieve in Italy". "We celebrated our 20th twinning anniversary there in 2008 and last year was the 30th anniversary for the French and the 15th for the Italians" "Unfortunately, the Burgermeister of Denzlingen, Dr. Lothar Fischer died suddenly last Easter and the planned celebrations were cancelled due to the period official mourning and the need to elect his successor".

Mr Lingard went on to say that although they had expected to travel to Germany later in the Summer, it had been decided to time this year's visit to coincide with the rearranged festivities. "We all had a great time over there when it was our anniversary and so we couldn't resist going to join in with this year's event"

The party will be leaving North Hykeham on Wednesday, 30th June and returning on Thursday 8th July. "We'll be having an overnight stop with our coach on the way to Denzlingen", said Mr Lingard, "and a two-night stay somewhere in France on the way back, so if anyone is looking for an interesting holiday trip, away from the crowded beaches of the Mediterranean, this could be for them!".

Although the party will be staying in hotels going to and from Denzlingen, accommodation in Germany is usually provided by local families although there are also local hotels and guest houses for those who prefer them. "We're still working on the costings and final details, "said Mr Lingard, "but we don't expect them to be exorbitant".
