Stamford
is twinned with Vence in Provence, France and Kutna Hora in the Czech republic. The respective
charters being signed in 1972 and 2000.
Stamford is a market town at
the southern tip of Lincolnshire. It has a very long history and a fine architectural heritage. Its
pleasant way of life attracts both the day visitor and many new residents to the area. Vence
is five miles north of Nice with the nearest coast being at Cagnes sur Mer. It is a cultural and artistic
centre with a winter population of 15,000 which rises to 40,000 in summer. It was the seat of artists
Matisse and Chagal. The inner town is walled and medieval with fine views of the mountains and the Mediterranean
coast. Kutna Hora
lies about 60 Kilometer to the East of Prague. It is a town on the UNESCO world heritage list. |
