Our
link with Mamers dates from 1975 and was first
established between De Aston School and College
de Mamers. Town links were developed later,
culminating in the signing of the Charter
in 1989.
Mamers
iis a delightful country town, with a population
of about 6000. Its main attractions include
a plan d'eau, campsite, swimming pool and
cinema. There are two churches, an imposing
Mairie, hospital, lycee, Colleges, horse riding
centre and a music school. Rillettes are the
local gastronomic speciality. Raclet is one
of the local firms.
Our visits to Mamers have featured the Market
Rasen RPC Band and the Choral Society on several
occasions, joining in concerts with musicians
from Mamers; groups from St John's and the
Fire Service, also dancers and instrumentalists.
We have welcomed to Market Rasen over the
years - choirs, a youth orchestra, guitarists
and a team of cyclists. Gifts to our twin
town have consisted of a GPO letter box, an
oak tree, a chocolate cockerel and many pictures
of our own locality. The latest offering will
be an embroidered wall hanging, depicting
aspects of Lincolnshire life, created by ladies
on the committee and friends.
